time to move on

A monumental week - the election of Barack Obama on November 4, 2008, was it a turning point or maybe just another date without real significance. A day of joy for many, a day like no other for African Americans in the 232+ years of U.S. history but the days and years to follow will mark it as a one feel good day or a turning point with a significant event marking the beginning of a new area in history.

There are cynics a plenty but a good day that leaves a permanent impression and one that cannot be taken away as long as the day is remembered.

It is possible for one with empathy for another human to understand the joy when years of oppression endured by millions seam to end, even if only momentary, by a day of freedom and equality. One black man’s election has the power to lift a weight from the soul of many.

Often at a loss for words and stare at a blank screen, perhaps some recall with my life, one Escapade after another.

Darry-w: I am sorry to hear that your mother died last year, before seeing Barak Obama elected in America. It is not a day of no real significance no matter what recent history decrees - it is a turning point. I am an Irish woman born in Canada who's father came here because as recently as the 1960s there were signs in Ireland saying 'No Catholics Need Apply". It is not only a problem of color nor of 'religion'- it is a problem of difference and the fear it engenders.
